The iconic commercial Philly Jazz version of Lanquidity rumbles forward like a monstrous, funk-zapped pachyderm, with a thundering, bottom-heavy groove. However, several hundred copies of an alternate, pre-release master were produced and sold at a 1978 Arkestra concert staged at Atlanta's Georgia Tech. The alternate has greater clarity, more room to breathe, and a shimmering high end. It's crisper and less compressed; the instruments are highlighted with greater focus. There's more "air in the room." It's not exactly a different mix—the instrument balance roughly matches, but the sonic spectrum is drastically recalibrated. "Twin Stars of Thence," features an additional 15 seconds of intro that precedes the start on the Philly Jazz version.

The limited pressing pre-release LP was withdrawn from circulation and replaced with the denser, commonly known version, which had been overhauled in post-production.
