Description

She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
Matthew 15:27

[Verse 1]
The depths of this desiccation
The height of these scraping towers
The width of this waste
And I see potential for action
Inside I hold a treasure
Take ahold of this earthen vessel
So worn and weary
But there's still potential for action

[Chorus]
I'm a dog with a torch in my mouth for my Lord
Making noise while I got time
Spreading fire while I got earth
How You wish it was already lit
Give me Your fire, I'll do Your work
I'm just a dog for my Lord

[Verse 2]
I hear a siren sounding
Through streets and over mountains
Hold out your torch and spread some fire
All around you

[Chorus]
[Bridge]
When I found Him (Who my heart lovеd)
I took hold of Him (would not let Him go)
Would not let Him go
When I found Him (Who my hеart loved)
He took hold of me (would not let me go)
Would not let me go
Would not let me go

This is not a song about eating crumbs.
There is a lot to learn from the faith of others. It can help encourage us and lead us in the way everlasting.

There's a wonderful article about the song, which will inform you in a much greater way than I ever could, if you just google the song title and artist name.

Here's a line from it about St. Dominic:
“Before his mother conceived him, she saw in a vision that she would bear in her womb a dog who, with a burning torch in his mouth and leaping from her womb, seemed to set the whole earth on fire. This was to signify that her child would be an eminent preacher who, by ‘barking’ sacred knowledge, would rouse to vigilance souls drowsy with sin, as well as scatter throughout the world the fire which the Lord Jesus Christ came to cast upon the earth” (Bl. Jordan of Saxony, O.P., Libellus).

It's interesting. My experience with English is that if you call someone a dog, you are insulting them. A man that cheats on his wife is a dog. A woman that is rude, mean, etc. etc., is a female dog.

I think it is in keeping with the Christian faith, though. Jesus kind of calls all Gentiles "dogs", and surely we see that all are sinners, and fall short. For me, it is nice to see a positive in that. Sure, dogs are less than humans, but dogs can do work really well still. I'm reminded of Samson tying foxes together by the tail and setting them on fire, when I think of the imagery of a dog carrying a torch. I could totally see a dog carrying a torch and running around lighting things on fire. For St. Dominic, it seems like this imagery got to be a message of igniting in others a passion for God and His saving grace, and "barking" His holy word.
That's pretty cool, I pray every day to be a godly presence in this world. I think sometimes, God even lets me.
