Moody and dimly lit are the words that spring to mind when listening to "In Between" from Chaos in the CBD, a pair of New Zealand brothers delving into deep house for the Amadeus imprint. Taken from the Dusty Sundays EP, the duo sets the stage with vintage snares and drawn-out cooing, allowing a haunting atmosphere take hold until harps, playground sounds, and free-floating chords dance into view. The warbling, mid-heavy bassline makes its presence felt halfway through the track, smoothing the entry for an arpeggiated synth solo that never quite takes off, allowing the track to ebb and flow in an interesting show of restraint.
